The Mark Biggs Show: Travel The World and See It All
I joined Mark on The Mark Big Show to talk about my journey from a small-town Kentucky upbringing to running my own travel business, and what actually got me through the hardest season of it.
How did growing up shape my path into travel?
My dad used to get physical "trip tickets" from AAA that mapped out our road trips, and I was always the navigator. That early love of planning trips stuck with me long before I ever thought it could be a career.
How did I actually get into the travel industry?
I was a high school English teacher running my school's travel club, taking students on trips to places like World War II sites in Europe. My husband's aunt, who owned her own agency, saw what I was doing and told me I could sell that same kind of travel to people who actually had the money to pay for it.
What was 2020 actually like for me?
I made about $3,000 that year. My son Paxton was born right as COVID hit, and I remember telling myself I was working for the Lord since I certainly wasn't making any money doing it. I went back to teaching in 2021 just to bring in a paycheck while rebuilding.
What turned things around after COVID?
A FAM trip to Cabo in 2021 lit a fire under me. I came home and decided to go all in, building my own website and brand instead of relying on leads from my agency. That decision, paired with finding out I was pregnant with my second child, forced me to build a team, and my sales quadrupled from 2022 to now.
What's my advice for anyone chasing their own version of this?
Say yes to opportunities when they're put in your path, even if you don't know where they'll lead. I never expected leading a school travel club would turn into a multi-million dollar business, but consistently showing up and putting in the work is what got me here.
